Lobe:Part of anorganthat appears to be separateinsome way from therest. Alobemay be demarcated from the rest of the organ by afissure(crack),sulcus(groove),connective tissueor simply by its shape. For example, there are thefrontal,parietal,temporal, andoccipitallobes of thebrain.

The word "lobe" from the Greeklobosmeaning "a small rounded projection" long applied only to the familiarroundprojection at the base of theear-- the earlobe. The lobes of the brain,thyroid,lungs, andliverwere hardly mentioned in English until the 16th century.
